Southern Highlands Bee Keeping
In this gourmet food tour you will join a local food and wine enthusiast, beekeeper and bon vivant on a honey tasting, overview of the lifecycle of a colony and then suit up and get down into the apiary, surrounded by bees!
The honey tasting provides a unique insight into the different tastes and textures created by Hamish’s bees as they collect nectar from different plants at different times of the year. Hamish harvests his honey using the Flow Hive system which allows you to take small amounts of honey at a time without disturbing the bees.
In turn we get to taste honeys collected weeks and sometimes days apart and compare them. All of this alongside leaf tea or plunger coffee and freshly baked scones. By building our knowledge of these important pollinators we are helping build a sustainable future for the bees and for all of us.
You will need fully enclosed shoes to be able to do this. Ideally leather boots. Everything else is provided. Also, keep in mind that we use smoke to mask our scent so you will end up smelling of eucalyptus smoke.
